Welcome to Burnley Nursery
A very warm welcome to The Co-operative Childcare.

Here you will find lots of general information that should be useful in getting a feel for the setting, however every child is individual and you will undoubtedly have lots of questions that relate specifically to your child’s needs, interests and their development. A tour of our quality facilities would be highly recommended in order to fully appreciate how the nursery operates and to see first hand the care and attention that each child receives. To arrange a tour, simply use the contact details on this page or pop in to the nursery itself.

At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

Our people

Our team of 22 colleagues have a wealth of experience in childcare and have attended a variety of training courses to enhance their knowledge and understanding. This enables them to provide the best possible care and learning experiences for our children. All our colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 100 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Andrea Lord has worked in childcare for over 15 years and together with our dedicated team of professionals, supports our children to learn and develop as individuals in a friendly, caring environment.

Indoor facilities

The Co-operative Childcare nursery is a stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere.

We have three spacious rooms; 3 months -2 year olds, 2-3 year olds and 3-5 year olds who are able to freely access the garden areas at any time. All rooms are attractive and welcoming displaying our children’s work and are regularly updated to maintain our children’s interests.

Outdoor facilities

The children have access to their own garden areas which are secluded and secure. There is a good range of adult led and child initiated activities both indoors and outdoors and the children have the opportunity to access the outdoor environment as freely as they like, including all weather conditions.

There is a drop off and pick up point at the side of the nursery building.

Activities

There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. These activities are planned in advance and occasionally with parent participation.

The nursery supports many initiative such as ECAT (Every Child a Talker), a programme designed to raise children's achievement in early language development from birth to five years of age. There is also a qualified speech and language support worker who supports our colleagues in developing a ‘talk–rich’ environment. The nursery also supports ‘Communication Friendly Spaces’, an initiative that focuses on the role of the environment in supporting speaking and listening skills, emotional well-being and general engagement.

A link has been established with the local Mobile Library bus which attends nursery every two weeks for the children to access and choose their own books to read within nursery or at home. The children also have many opportunities to visit the local amenities on supervised outings with the nursery team.

Food

At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and provides the children with the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. We promote calm and friendly mealtimes. Our nursery has achieved accreditation for ‘Smiling for Life’ which aims to encourage young children’s interest and enjoyment in a wide variety of healthy food choices to enhance physical and mental well being.

By following stringent food safety procedures, our Burnley nursery has been awarded Gold level for Recipe for Health and also awarded a level 5 food hygiene rating (very good) by the Food standards agency.

Parent involvement

The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information and includes our parent representatives of the nursery. There are also room notice boards throughout the nursery which have information about events planned and educational information for parents and carers. In the various 0-3 year olds home rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies, time that they have had their teeth brushed and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. We also ensure that thorough verbal feedback is also given as in the 3-5 year olds room. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parents’ evenings are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents. There is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery.

A word from the nursery manager

“We have a rich and diverse staff team all of whom have a wealth of knowledge and experience in childcare and education. We strive to keep the nursery forward thinking for the future and to maintain a positive and child- centred approach. The nursery has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and provides exciting and educational activities that are individually planned for each child. We have spacious airy rooms, which lead directly into the garden areas. Each child attending has a detailed development folder completed by their Key Person and their files are individually tailored to meet the child’s needs through the EYFS Framework. We have been awarded with the Aiming Higher 4 Children which demonstrates the high standards that are achieved within our nursery in order for the children to reach their full potential”
