Welcome to Chichester Nursery
A very warm welcome to The Co-operative Childcare.
Here you will find lots of general information that should be useful in getting a feel for the setting, however every child is individual and you will undoubtedly have lots of questions that relate specifically to your child’s needs, interests and their development. A tour of our quality facilities would be highly recommended in order to fully appreciate how the nursery operates and to see first hand the care and attention that each child receives. To arrange a tour, simply use the contact details on this page or pop in to the nursery itself.
At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.
Latest Ofsted report
“Younger children are actively involved in their play, confidently selecting and exploring the resources. For example, they show their imagination by using bubble wrap as a blanket and pretending to go to sleep. Others prefer to jump on it and enjoy the noise it makes. They have fun playing with musical instruments which are set out on the table for them to access independently. Children in another area are very excited as they prepare to go out into the garden to play. Staff and key persons observe children’s play and these observations are added to assessment files. Senior staff continue to monitor systems to ensure their effectiveness”

Our people
Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 90 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Nicole has worked in childcare for over 25 years and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 20 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a warm and friendly nursery setting.
Indoor facilities
The Co-operative Childcare nursery is a stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our welcoming atmosphere.
Our indoor learning environment consists of 3 rooms split into the following age groups: 3 months to 2 year olds, 2 to 3 year olds, and 3 to 5 year olds.
The children are moved around the rooms not only based on their age but also on their own personal development. All rooms have hand washing facilities and changing areas and our baby room has a separate milk kitchen to prepare their feeds.
Outdoor facilities
The nursery has a lovely outdoor garden area that all our children have access to from their own individual rooms at any time. There is one area for the older children and a separate area for the younger children and babies. We aim to provide plenty of opportunities for physical play with a large range of outdoor toys and activities available for our children to access at all times. We are also developing our growing area where we will be planting, picking, cooking and eating a range of fruits and vegetables.
Activities
There are many activities and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework.
Activities are planned for all age groups to ensure a flexible and balanced curriculum with a combination of busy and quiet activities, indoor and outdoor play. The children are also actively encouraged to make their own choices and initiate their own play
Food
At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef has been with us for over 8 years and has extensive catering experience. She prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. Children always have access to fresh drinking water.
We have also received a level 5 in food hygiene rating which is the highest accolade and provides our parents with reassurance that our standards are very high in all areas of our nursery.
Parent involvement
The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. Our baby and toddler rooms have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parents evening are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery.
A word from the nursery manager
” Our nursery is a lovely welcoming setting. It has a warm friendly atmosphere and an open door policy for all parents. The nursery fully complies with the current safety and disability regulations and being a single story building there is also easy access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
The dedicated nursery team are very passionate about providing the best possible care for our children and we are very proud to have participated in an Aiming Higher quality assurance scheme and to have been awarded a certificate from the awarding body ‘4 children’. This reflects the hard work and commitment provided at our nursery in ensuring that together with our parents, we support our children to learn and develop with confidence and as an individual”
