Latest Ofsted report
“The nursery has a vibrant and exciting atmosphere which is a strong factor in helping children to feel happy, settled and valued. For example, lots of children's artwork and displays make a colourful and interesting environment. Detailed assessment and monitoring of progress throughout the nursery ensure staff know the children well and consequently act upon their needs.
The setting has strived to develop highly inclusive systems of communication to ensure that there are consistent and productive partnerships with parents and carers, resulting in strong levels of engagement with the setting. For example, a parents forum has been developed, parents stated that any queries are dealt quickly with, that the nursery is very open and continuity of care is carried on from home”

Our people
Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are NVQ level 3 qualified or working towards their qualifications. Our Nursery Manager Joanne has a Foundation degree in Early Years and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 18 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a brightly refurbished modern nursery setting.
Indoor facilities
The Co-operative Childcare nursery is a stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We have three bright and spacious rooms; one room for younger 0-2 year olds, one room for our 2-3 year olds and our final room for our more active 3-5 year olds. All rooms have direct access to the outdoors allowing our children to freely move between their rooms and the garden whenever they wish.
Outdoor facilities
The nursery has its own outdoor garden which has a climbing area and pergola. There are also two automatic awnings to provide shade and shelter for the children and to ensure that children can access the outdoors in all weather conditions. We provide plenty of opportunities for physical play with a large range of activities available for our children to access freely as they move between their rooms and the outdoors the day.
Activities
There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. These activities are planned in advance with each child’s individual needs and interests accounted. The nursery is also involved in initiatives such as ‘Every Child a Talker’ (a programme designed to raise children's achievement in early language development from birth to five years of age) and the CLLD project (communication, language and literacy).
Food
At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. Children always have access to fresh drinking water.
Parent involvement
The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. In the various 0-3 year olds home rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parents evening are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery. We also conduct parent forum meetings each term where parent representatives discuss the developments of the nursery and any other key topics with the nursery management team. This ensures a collaborative partnership approach with our parents and we welcome all feedback to ensure we are always raising our high standards.
