Our people

Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 200 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Tracy has worked in childcare for many years and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 23 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a brightly refurbished modern nursery setting.

Indoor facilities

On the ground floor there is a baby room which can take children from the age of 3 months - 1 year or more depending on individual child’s development. Children are not moved up until they are ready to do so. There are two toddler rooms which cater for children aged between 1-2 years old and a transitional base room for 2-3 year olds. There is also a kitchen, parent’s room, colleague’s staff room, laundry room, large atrium, milk kitchen, a baby changing room, two adult toilets, and three children’s toilets and wash basins. The ground floor toilets also offer disabled access. On the upper floor there is a room for children aged between 2-3 years old and finally there is a room for the preschool children aged between 3-5 years. There is also a changing room and toilet facilities on this floor. Two training rooms are provided to ensure ongoing training is available to all our nursery team.

Outdoor facilities

The nursery has a covered outdoor area which enables the children to utilise it regardless of weather conditions. The pre- school children are also able to share a large playing area with the children of the school next door. There is also a separate planting area where vegetables will be planted for the children to enjoy watching them grow and cooking with them.

Activities

There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. These activities are planned in advance and very often with parent participation

Food

Our onsite chef caters for all of the children’s dietary requirements for instance serving Halal meat if requested. Allergies and parental preferences are also catered for. Breakfast is served each morning and consists of a variety of cereals and toast. Morning and afternoon snacks are usually a selection of fruit, Lunch is a freshly made nutritional meal and high tea in the afternoon ranges from home made soup, sandwiches etc. The chef has worked at this nursery for over 9yrs and is dedicated to ensuring that the children’s needs are catered for, including their likes and dislikes and adapts meals accordingly.

Parent involvement

The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. In the various 0-3 year olds home rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. When parents join the nursery they are asked to complete an information from home sheet which will help the key person to settle the child into the nursery environment. Parents evening are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery.

A word from the nursery manager

“The nursery is a large and spacious building that has been recently refurbished giving it a clean, modern appearance and atmosphere. They nursery team are very friendly and approachable which our parents really appreciate and are experienced, well trained and loyal with many of them having over 10 years experience at the Maida Vale nursery. We have an outdoor area which is solely for the use of the nursery, therefore all of the children are able to go outside at least twice a day and as it is covered, in all weather conditions. We are within close proximity to a library which the children visit as much as possible. We are also within walking distance to the local transport system which gives us access to a variety of local attractions. The local community has a wide range of cultures and this gives us a rich diversity of children including those for whom English is an additional language. We have a very personal approach in our nursery and together with our parents, we aim to provide our children with the best possible start in life”
