Welcome to Maidenhead Nursery
A very warm welcome to The Co-operative Childcare.
Here you will find lots of general information that should be useful in getting a feel for the setting, however every child is individual and you will undoubtedly have lots of questions that relate specifically to your child’s needs, interests and their development. A tour of our quality facilities would be highly recommended in order to fully appreciate how the nursery operates and to see first hand the care and attention that each child receives. To arrange a tour, simply use the contact details on this page or pop in to the nursery itself.
At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

Our people
Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 100 years of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Suzanne has worked in childcare for over 18 years and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 22 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a brightly refurbished modern nursery setting.
Indoor facilities
The nursery is in a lovely purpose built setting with large spacious rooms. There are four rooms within our nursery split into the following age groups: two rooms for the 0- 2 year olds, one room for the 2 to 3 year olds and one room for the 3 to 5 year olds.
All of the rooms have video monitored door releases to ensure our children’s safety is paramount at all times. The kitchen is on site which is accessed via a secure door from the reception area. All of the rooms are self contained and there is sleep area, nappy change/toilet area and a milk kitchen for the younger children’s rooms.
Outdoor facilities
The nursery has two large, secure, private garden areas, one for the younger children under the age of two and one for the older children over two years of age. The outdoor areas have a variety of play surfaces from grass to soft play tarmac. There is a play house and a variety of outdoor equipment including bats, balls, bikes and a climbing frame with a slide and a tunnel. The children also have an allotment area where they learn how to take care of plants, herbs, vegetables and flowers and enjoy watching them grow.
All indoor rooms have immediate access to the outdoor areas and the nursery team actively encourage “free flow play” where the outside area is treated as an extension of each of our rooms.
Activities
All the activities for our children our planned to their individual needs and interests, with a range of opportunities available to them. To support the children’s learning, the mobile library visits twice a month and children can choose their own books to share with each other in the book corners.
As part of our community work the nursery has adopted a donkey from the local donkey sanctuary. The children receive regular updates about Pollyanne and she also comes to the nursery for visits.
Food
At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. Children always have access to fresh drinking water.
Parent involvement
The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. In the various 0-3 year olds home rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parent evenings are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery. The nursery has a well established Parent forum that meet regularly to discuss nursery updates/views and to help organise fun days and parent social evenings.
A word from the nursery manager
“The nursery is a bright, friendly and happy place with busy children and my team are always friendly and approachable. We have a fantastic large and secure garden area that the children love to explore and investigate, and through free flow play our outdoor garden area is used as an extension of our indoor rooms.
I have a well established nursery team that are all trained to a level 3 qualification and above, with many of the team working towards their foundation degree in the Early Years. We are all motivated in making the nursery a fun environment for our children to play and learn in and ensuring that the children all reach their full potential. Through our planning, our children are given many opportunities and experiences to gain additional skills that will support their development further.
Each of our children has there own key person and secondary key person which helps them to build healthy relationships with adults and feel safe and secure in the nursery environment. We encourage all of our children to be independent and learn new skills with support from the nursery team. We are extremely proud of our nursery and would love for you to visit and see how special our nursery really is”
