Day Nursery Charlton

Welcome To The Co-operative Childcare

About our nursery

At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

The Co-operative Childcare nursery is a fun, stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere.

What our parents say

My son really enjoys going to nursery. His key care worker really looks out for him and he is very happy every time he sees her. He has come on in leaps and bounds since starting the nursery, more confident, more social and more active. He also likes the food there. The management team are also very strong, very enthusiastic and always looking to get the parents involved with their children and improving the standard of Charlton Co-operative. Overall, we couldn't be happier and would readily recommend this nursery to anyone.

Caring, supportive staff. Clean facilities. My children are very happy there.

Since my son started at the Daycare he has become more confident and has learnt a great deal. I feel happy to leave him in the staff's care and I am very pleased with the attention and care they give him. They are always welcoming and accommodating and put the children first. I would recommend them to any parent looking for a Daycare and I am delighted with the way in which they have nurtured and helped my son. The Acting Nursery Manager Connie Cousins is fantastic and always ready to help.

What we do

Children are able to explore a range of activities in the nursery and experience learning through play. They are planned in accordance with the children's needs and support the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

Activities are planned with children's parents to build partnerships and to support children with their learning and development, at home and in the nursery. We also plan trips and walks to places of interests to build on learning, allowing the children to experience the local surroundings. The nursery is involved in projects such as Every Child a Talker (ECAT), which promotes and raises children’s communication and language skills, raising their emotional well-being using a holistic approach. Staff plan activities based on children’s interests and act on them accordingly to extend their development. Individual profiles are used to record children’s achievements and capture their progress through their learning journeys.

We are an Eco-friendly nursery with recycling facilities in place to begin teaching the children about our environment and the importance of recycling.

Our People

Our nursery staff receive a comprehensive induction and regular training when they begin their career with us. We have a highly qualified, professional team who all hold relevant childcare NVQ levels. Staff attend training courses to further their expertise and build on their knowledge to enhance children’s experiences within the nursery environment. The team have worked within the nursery for a number of years and share our passion for care. They are enthusiastic about their work, creating a child friendly, warm and positive environment.Staff ratios are 1:3 for 0 - 2 year olds, 1:4 for 2 – 3 year olds and 1:8 for 3 – 5 year olds.

Outdoor Facilities

We have a luxurious balcony for the over two’s which has a roof canopy allowing the children to extending their play in an outdoor environment. Babies have a separate soft surface garden area with artificial grass, giving them varied textures to begin to explore the outside world in play. There are musical toys and mirrors attached to the walls to provide stimulating play.

Activities are available for children to access at all times including sand, water and physical. Children are given choices to resources they wish to play with.

We have a vegetable patch enabling the children to develop their understanding of the wider world which enhances their understanding of how things are grown. Children are able to taste the vegetables they have grown and share them with the nursery cook.

Parents as Partners

The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. In the various rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them.

Parent evenings are offered at regular intervals throughout the year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery. We have a parent group which meets once a term and encourages parents to give feedback about various nursery topics of discussion.

Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s learning by informing the nursery team of what has been taking place at home and by participating in special events.
