Welcome To The Co-operative Childcare

About our nursery

At The Co-operative Childcare nurseries, we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

The Co-operative Childcare nursery Newcastle is a stimulating, safe and secure environment for your child and we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere. There are 4 home rooms within our nursery split into the following age groups: one room for 3 months – 1 year, one room for 1-2 year olds, one room for the 2-3 year olds and one room for the 3-5 year olds.

What our parents say

My daughter only spoke mandarin when she first started nursery. Within 6 months her English was good staff were very helpful in guiding her to understand and communicate her needs to her friends and adults.
My daughter loves the dance class on Friday mornings.

She has settled so well as I was worried about leaving her.

Isobel has been at the nursery for over 4 years (since she was only 3 months old) in that time we have seen her develop in many different ways.

The staff have always been friendly and are always there to answer questions. We are so very happy and would not hesitate to recommend the nursery to our friends.

Professional management, organised, clean and tidy. Friendly caring staff with spacious rooms, high ceilings, nice old building. My child really enjoys himself, he likes all the toys, play frame etc. Home cooked nutritious meals with lots of variety during the week. Good staff to children ratio, not too many children in each room. Secure, central location in town with parking and outside apace for kids. Varied activities during the day such as sand and water play, painting, songs and stories. Nursery supplies nappies, creams, medicine i.e calpol, bonjella, drinks.

Nursery provides excellent care for my son, staff are very friendly and really know what they are talking about. Meals are well nourished and activities very stimulating.

My son loves to attend and has great fun.

Excellent nursery. Lovely friendly staff team always plan excellent learning experiences. My daughter loves coming to nursery and has an excellent bond with her key person. Both my children have attended and loved it. Excellent location and children visit interesting places. I also have friends and family who have used the nursery and have thought it is fantastic.

Beautiful room for kids to play and listen to stories.

The nursery is fantastic with a wide range of activities. The new atrium is fantastic with many areas for many purposes, has a lovely calm and relaxed feel about it, fantastic.

Room is bright, well decorated, spacious natural theme- wood benches, trees, a grass like carpet and a sand box. Kourtney is so excited, climbing the little hill, meeting new friends and she quite enjoys the food provided and the well-presented activities. We all enjoyed it and like it. Thank you.

Very friendly staff, always available with quality care. Our daughter surprises us every day with what she has learnt. The nursery provides different activities for the kids and the staff are always available for them.

I would recommend this daycare as they have very well trained staff who look after the children well. I can tell my child is happy here as he's always happy when being dropped off, and sometimes just wants to carry on playing at the end of the day when I pick him up. Plus they provide healthy balanced meals for the kids and a great learning environment for the different ages. I also like the fact that the kids have day trips to museums so they are not always stuck in the nursery.

My daughter attended the nursery for two years, she really loved it here. She enjoyed meeting new friends and was always looking forward to coming to nursery which really helped her enjoy and settle into her current school.

What we do

There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place in our nurseries and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. Our play/learning activities are carefully planned taking in to account childrens individual likes, interest and stages of development.

The nursery team also take full advantage of our City Centre location and regularly take the children on walking trips to local places of interest. These include the central library, local market, cathedral and Blackfriars grassed area. The Co-operative Childcare has a good relationship with the Discovery Museum. For example, the team assisted the museum when they were in the planning and developing stages for their 'Play Tyne' water area and our children were invited to pilot the area before it opened to the public.

Our People

Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and together they have over 225 years of experience in childcare, with several of our colleagues educated to a degree level. Our day nursery Newcastle manager Denise has over 33 years of experience in childcare and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 28 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a brightly refurbished modern nursery setting.

Outdoor Facilities

The Newcastle Nursery is a grade 2 listed building in the city centre of Newcastle. There are four large children's playrooms and a spacious atrium which is used for physical play.

An secure outdoor play area is available a short walk away from the nursery. The space can comfortably accommodate up to 20 children at any one time and our children delight in growing plants and watching trains arrive and depart from the central train station.

Parking for parents is available with a drop off and pick up point at the side of the nursery building.

Parents as Partners

We value and respect parents views and wishes and ask that they share information on their child with us to fully support each child's learning journey. When parents join our nursery we ask them to complete an 'information from home' sheet which helps the key person to settle their child into the nursery environment. We have a two way 'wow voucher' system to share special moments by the children as well as sharing the little things they say and do too.

In our nurseries, we give daily updates to parents using diaries and verbal feedback on how their child has been throughout the day. This includes how they have eaten, slept and any nappy changes they may have had, as well as, what they have done/particularly enjoyed during the day.

Parents are regularly invited to meet to discuss their child's progress with the key person, there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery.

We provide parents with useful information via our parent notice board and regular newsletters. Our parents forum meetings are held every three months, these keep parents involved in developments within the nursery. We often have a Summer picnic on a Sunday to provide parents the opportunity to meet day nursery staff and other parents in an informal setting.

A word from the nursery manager:

Newcastle nursery is ideally situated next to the train station and the location is perfect for parents working in the city centre or having to use public transport to travel to work. Entrance to the nursery is gained via a grand foyer of the Grade 2 listed building and the setting has some unique features such as a large atrium with skylights which is available for children of all age ranges to use.
