Welcome to Swindon Nursery
A very warm welcome to The Co-operative Childcare.

Here you will find lots of general information that should be useful in getting a feel for the setting, however every child is individual and you will undoubtedly have lots of questions that relate specifically to your child’s needs, interests and their development. A tour of our quality facilities would be highly recommended in order to fully appreciate how the nursery operates and to see first hand the care and attention that each child receives. To arrange a tour, simply use the contact details on this page or pop in to the nursery itself.

At The Co-operative Childcare we never underestimate how difficult a decision it is to leave your child in the care of others and our aim is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make this very important decision.

Latest Ofsted report

“This efficiently organised nursery, with its largely qualified and friendly staff, make sure that all children are safe, well cared for and make generally good progress in their learning and development. There are particularly rigorous procedures in place to safeguard the children. Staff know the children well and they work closely with parents and others to meet each child’s individual needs effectively overall. The nursery monitors its own performance closely. It takes account of feedback from staff, parents, children and outside professionals to help build on strengths and take action to improve any identified weaker areas."

Our people

Our nursery team are friendly, approachable and have attended numerous training courses to enhance their knowledge, enabling them to provide the best care and enjoyable learning experiences for our children. All colleagues are qualified or working towards their qualifications and have a wealth of experience in childcare. Our Nursery Manager Tracy has worked in childcare for over 17 years and there is a dedicated, loyal team of 29 colleagues who help our children to have the best start in life in a brightly refurbished modern nursery setting.

Indoor facilities

The Co-operative Childcare nursery is well positioned on the main hospital site in Swindon. It is a purpose built, stimulating, safe and secure environment for our children and we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming atmosphere.

We have four age appropriate spacious rooms, 0-1 year olds, 1-2 years, 2-3 year olds and 3-5 year olds. All rooms have direct access and ‘free flow’ into the secure garden area. Each room is self contained with a sleep room/area, nappy/toilet area and a milk kitchen for our younger rooms.

Outdoor facilities

The nursery has its own garden that has a separate area for our children aged under 2 years of age. The age appropriate garden areas have a variety of equipment that provide opportunities for physical play with a large range of outdoor toys and activities available for our children to access at all times.

We are conveniently located only two minutes from the main hospital building. The hospital has a direct bus route from the town centre and is part of all other main bus routes. There are drop off parking spaces outside the nursery car park available for dropping off and collecting children. The nursery is open to the general public as well as hospital staff.

Activities

There are many activities in addition to the core learning and play that takes place at the nursery and supports the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. All our activities are planned around each child’s individual needs, interests and abilities to ensure that we develop and extend each child’s learning opportunities.

Food

At The Co-operative Childcare we offer a comprehensive package and provide all nappies and food (breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, tea). Our experienced chef prepares a home cooked lunch every day using fresh produce sourced from local suppliers where possible. This supports our ethics and values of being a co-operative and gives the children the nutrition they need to ensure they grow healthily whilst in our care. We also cater for all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural foods and our food is freshly made on a daily basis. Children always have access to fresh drinking water.

Parent involvement

The parents have an information board located in the reception area which has a variety of useful information. In the various 0-3 year olds rooms they have a feedback sheet which includes the children’s daily information of how they have been, including sleep, food, nappies and anything that they have enjoyed during the day. The 3-5 year olds carers give verbal feedback to the parent on a daily basis. Regular newsletters are sent to parents to keep them updated on up and coming events and we encourage parent participation in many of them. Parent evenings are offered twice a year where the child’s key person discusses the child’s development with their parents and there is also an annual survey for parents to give structured feedback on all areas of the nursery. The nursery holds a summer barbeque to allow working parents to participate and have the opportunity to meet with the nursery team and other parents in an informal, fun setting.

A word from the nursery manager

“We have a friendly, loyal, dedicated who are passionate about childcare and provide a fun, warm and caring environment for our children to develop to their full potential. We are pleased to consistently achieve ‘Good’ ratings from Ofsted and we are actively working with the support of our parents to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the future. The nursery is well established in the local area and is conveniently located on the Swindon Hospital site.

We work closely with our parents to ensure that our children’s development is achieved through a partnership approach and we are confident that together we can help to give our children the best possible start in life."
